Where Has the Little Boy Gone? by Bill Shiver

January 22, 2012 in Bill Shiver Articles

Where oh where has that little boy gone,

The one at the Cream-O with the ice cream cone.

Who went to town on Saturdays,

To see Roy Rogers and Gabby Hayes,

Where has the little boy gone.

Who played touch football on the big front lawn,

And played marbles and seldom won,

Riding his stick horse into the setting sun.

Where has the little boy gone.

With toy cap pistols and BB gun,

He and his posse would have such fun,

With Nehi’s and RC’s and Moon Pies galore,

What more in the world could a boy ask for.

Where has the little boy gone.

That little boy hasn’t gone you see,

He still is alive right here in me,

And once in a while I set him free,

To laugh and giggle with joy and glee,

That little boy still lives in me.

I sometimes wonder if it’s worth it all,

To grow up to be so big and tall,

My life went from Spring time and straight to the Fall,

I’m waiting now for the Angels to call.

I am that little boy who once was me.

Inside every young child  today,

There’s an old man or lady just waiting to say,

Where has my childhood gone, and they’ll pray,,

God bless the children, we’ll see them some day..
